From Booklist
The Funny Times is a monthly publication containing bits of humor from a variety of magazines and newspapers across the country. With a circulation of about 60,000 subscribers, The Funny Times is certain to earn some favorable attention from this new book. Editors Lesser and Wolpert have compiled their best finds from the last 15 years into this collection that features essays, columns, and cartoons from such well-known voices as George Burns, P.J. O'Rourke, Jules Feiffer, Dave Barry, Harry Shearer, Matt Groening, and numerous others. Subject matter such as dating, marriage, politics, religion, and popular culture represent common ground familiar enough to appeal to a wide audience (though perhaps more so to those on the left side of the political scale). Other pieces seem to be aimed at narrow niches of readers with specific experiences or perspectives, making the humor somewhat inaccessible (not funny) to those outside the target audience. Nevertheless, some of the more popular humorists of recent years are represented here. Gavin Quinn
