Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year: 2012 Edition
by Charles Brooks (Editor)

Overview
It was a year in which terrorists and despots alike-Osama bin Laden, Hosni Mubarak, and Moammar Gadhafi among them-bit the dust, while the world economy inched closer and closer to the brink. In the United States, another presidential campaign got underway, and President Barack Obama faced plummeting public approval numbers. Nations around the world struggled to deal with a growing range of problems.

Leading editorial cartoonists observed these issues, along with dozens of others, and offered their own unique analysis of the people, ideas, and events behind the headlines. Liberal, conservative, middle-of-the-road-all points of view are represented here in these more than 400 of the year's best cartoons.

The year also marked the end of another era. Charles Brooks, who compiled and edited every volume in this series from its inception 40 years ago, passed away as this book was being prepared. In addition to his work on all 40 volumes in this annual series, Brooks was editorial cartoonist for the Birmingham News for 38 years and served as president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.
