On A Street In Singapore
Hey! You guys ever heard of this book? On A Street In Singapore is a book which shows the comic view of Singapore- WHICH IS SUPER SUPER HELPFUL TO ALL SINGAPOREAN STUDENTS.
If you're a student, you should know damn well that the Ministry of Education Singapore likes to ask students to do write ups, presentations or a timetable for the tourist or things like that on Singapore A LOT. Just two weeks ago I had to do a presentation on one of Singapore's forefather, Goh Keng Swee. Anyway, with this book, you don't EVER have to spend our time researching again and again.
I saw it at IMM's Popular bookstore and I managed to convince my mom to buy it for me, YAY! And it was only today, in school, I realized that I have a collaboration project with either students from New York or Australia. My group was supposed to do Singaporean Indentity. Know why I choosed this topic? - See more at: http://kaixinz.blogspot.com/2011/05/on-street-in-singapore.html#sthash.oHlNerkC.dpuf
THAT'S BECAUSE WE GET TO SHARE THE USE OF SINGLISH IN SINGAPORE! Hahahah, it's super fun to teach someone a language that you are super good in - although it's not allowed during examinations. I mean, who cares. Everyone, all over Singapore, is using Singlish to communicate.
And guess what? My LAB partner + team member for this project told me that she came across this..don't-know-what-I'm-supposed-to-call-it in wikipedia. The Prime Minister said that Singlish should not be part of the Singaporean Indentity. Why? Because it's embarrassing that Singaporeans mixes Chinese, Malay, English, Hokkien, Teochew, Tamil, whatever whatever together and improvise it and call it Singlish? - See more at: http://kaixinz.blogspot.com/2011/05/on-street-in-singapore.html#sthash.oHlNerkC.dpuf
It's Singaporean's Identity and it is. What the hell can you do about it? Uh yeah, there are more and more university graduates from Singapore since everyone's rich enough to afford to let their children go to school. But it's not like the university graduates don't use Singlish at home. Yeah, people try to speak in proper english. But let me tell you.. Singaporeans feel more comfortable speaking Singlish.
KNOW WHY? Cause there's no right or wrong. Maybe you made a mistake, but no one who know. They would think..that it's..SINGLISH.
