This is a great book of political cartoons depicting some of the American labor movement's tense struggles in a simple, humorous way.
These cartoons were drawn by free-lance cartoonist, Ben Yomen, and were printed in many, many labor publications across the country such as those of the garment workers, auto workers, steel workers, communication workers, and transportation workers. These cartoons captured the issues so well that editors for the AFL-CIO and the Railroad Brotherhood publications once called Yomen America's most popular labor cartoonist.
There is no other collection of political cartoons like this in the world. This one-of-a-kind book is Yomen's snapshot of labor's struggles during the bleak war years of the 1940s along with those of tense racial issues of the 1960s. These were some of the most decisive years in the labor movement. While the boys and gals were fighting enemies overseas, dad and mom fought their own battles for decent working conditions and decent pay here at home.
